A private talk and tour on London and slave trade at the Docklands Museum
Thursday 15th April, 2pm (£19)
Telling a 2000 year story of river, port and people, Museum of London Docklands is situated in a late Georgian Grade I listed warehouse on West India Quay – at the heart of London’s historic Docklands. We have arranged for one of the Museum’s curators to deliver this illustrated talk which explores London's largely unknown role in the transatlantic slave trade. The talk reveals how intimately London's wealth was connected with the slave plantations of the West Indies, and how the profits and produce from the sugar colonies helped create the greatest imperial port in the world. This talk will be complemented by a visit to the critically-acclaimed London, Sugar & Slavery gallery. Afterwards you will have the opportunity to relax with tea and cake before exploring the exhibitions at your own leisure.
