Legacy
Great schools survive and prosper due to the stewardship of earlier generations. Of crucial importance to our schools is the ongoing ability to offer places to gifted students from all backgrounds.
Providing opportunities for this high standard of education in the 21st century is more expensive than ever before and the pressures on our schools even greater.
Legacies are vitally important - every single bequest made, whether large or small, helps keep our schools at the forefront of education.
What your bequest will be used for
Your wishes as a donor are of primary importance. We would be happy to talk with you about areas of particular interest and also how we can acknowledge your generosity.
Your legacy will help:
• build our bursary endowment
• maintain and improve the fabric of our buildings
• upgrade facilities and keep pace with technological advances
• meet the challenges of the 21st century
What happens if you do not make a Will?
It is very important for everyone to make a Will to ensure their wishes for their Estate can be carried out as they intend. If you die without leaving a Will the law will decide what happens to your Estate, under the Intestacy Rules. Charities cannot benefit unless you leave a Will and there will be no opportunity to save tax.
Save Tax and Help Charities
Gifts in Wills to a registered charity are exempt from Inheritance Tax. It also means that, if the tax free portion of your Estate is left to relatives and friends, with the balance going to charity, then your entire Estate becomes “tax free”, irrespective of size. Even where non-exempt personal bequests exceed the tax threshold, a substantial reduction in tax can still be made by leaving the balance to charity. If making a tax-effective Will is of interest to you, please discuss the matter with your solicitor since the threshold for Inheritance Tax and the rates of tax are generally changed each year in the Budget.
