Stunning success was achieved this year by the six girls brave enough to attempt an examination which tests skills and aptitude above and beyond that required for A Level. These girls entered the Advanced Extension Award in English, and they achieved four distinctions and two merits between them.
This result was particularly spectacular since two of the highest marks were achieved by girls not yet in the sixth form (Lucy McDonald and Katrina Longhurst) and a year 13 student (Sophie Jamieson) achieved full marks on this paper in addition to the full marks already achieved in her English Literature A Level. Congratulations must also go to our year 12 students, Rowan Williams- Fletcher who achieved a distinction, and Charlotte Bezant and Miranda Bubb-Humfryes who gained merits.
The girls prepared for the examination through group work over a series of lunch times and a seminar day facilitated by Jean Edwards and Hilary Davies, two members of the English department.
