The nineteen person strong team from Manchester and Salford University Officer Training Corps (MSUOTC) far exceeded all expectations on their trip to Sucheta Kriplani Shiksha Niketan (SKSN), a school in northern India (Jodhpur, Rajasthan) for the physically disabled.
Before leaving for India the team managed to raise an impressive £17500, which was spent directly on the school since the flights, food, water and accommodation costs had already been covered by all the individuals themselves. The three-week trip involved fourteen days working at the school and five days of travelling from the school back to Delhi airport taking in the great sights such as the Taj Mahal and the numerous forts of Rajasthan.
The team worked exceptionally hard whilst at the school, battling through the intense heat, which often exceeded 40°C and dodging the ferocious monsoon rainstorms. The team adhered to a strict daily routine to ensure that the hard work they undertook was equally rewarded with periods of rest and also enabled the team time to bond with the amazing children at the school.
