We hope you enjoy catching up on all the news and if you went to Croydon High why not become an Old Croydonian and keep in touch? If you have any news for the next newsletter please email it to ocs@hush.com. Your news needs to be with us by February 1 2009 by the latest to be included in the next newsletter
Our annual lunch and AGM will be held on Saturday June 6th 2009. Details and tickets will be available from April by emailing web@oldcroydonians.co.uk . All former pupils are invited, whether members of the Old Croydonians or not, and those who left in a year ending in a 9 are particularly encouraged to make it a year group reunion. We can promise you good food and wine along with plenty of time to meet friends, old and new, for a good gossip and catch up!
We now have our own website at www.oldcroydonians.co.uk ; please visit us soon. Take a walk down memory lane in the photo gallery and if you have any photos from your school days that we don’t have please help us fill in the gaps.
Our annual newsletter ‘The Old Croydonian’ has become a very expensive way of keeping in touch with our 1500+ members and we would appeal to all of you who can, to please send us your email address so that you can read it online.
Old Croydonians Constitution
Having consulted with other GDST Old Girls Associations we realised that our ‘Rules’ needed updating. At the AGM and Summer Lunch Party on June 14th at CHS we voted to accept a revised constitution.
FINANCES Over the years our organisation has changed to reflect changing lifestyles and requirements of members. We now have two main activities, the summer lunch and the newsletter.
The summer lunch, a delicious meal with much chatter and laughter is thoroughly enjoyed by all who attend. It includes an extremely brief AGM. Did you miss our Summer Lunch on June 14 2008? Click here to see photos.
Last year 1600 copies of the newsletter were distributed to members all round the world. We endeavour to minimise our costs, but last year printing and postage cost over £700.
Most of our income is derived from new members’ subscriptions, and in the past a steady flow of new members enabled us to build a good financial reserve. However, recently we have witnessed a decline in the number of school leavers joining the association. As a result we are having to use some of our reserves to fund the newsletter. The situation is not critical, but it is not comfortable. Committee meetings have addressed the situation many times, but no solution has emerged so far.
We need your help. What does membership of The Old Croydonians mean to you? What do YOU think we should be doing? Some of you must have an opinion or suggestion. Please let us know. We look forward to hearing from you. ocs@hush.com
THE OLD CROYDONIAN ONLINE
With rising production costs, stamps going up every year and a desire to save a few trees along with the planet we are asking all members who can, to consider receiving TOC online. This year as a trial TOC will be available here on the Minerva website (just use the pdf links below) and the school website as well as a hard copy. We are happy to email members when the new edition of TOC is uploaded each year so what we need from all of you is your consent to this and your email address. Please email us at ocs@hush.com with your details and watch out for your notification email around Easter each year.
